For Breast Feeding Mum's

We have made a formula which we believe is the healthiest for your baby while also helping soothe the skin and keep it in good condition. Rather than use Lanolin, we have chosen a number of edible and soothing oils and combined them with calming and conditioning ingredients.

Please Note: During winter our Mudder Udder Balm has little bits of unmelted Shea Butter through the balm. These melt as the balm warms to skin temperature.

Lanolin Free, Preservative Free, Soothing and Edible.

Ingredients:

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E),Euphorbia Certifera Cera (Candelilla Wax), Mel (Honey), Copernicia Cerifera Cera (Carnauba Wax), Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Cera Alba (Beeswax), Allantoin, Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract.

Ingredient Description
Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil Jojoba Oil is one of the most moisturising skin care oils around and is one of our all-time favourite moisturising oils. It is light and sinks into the skin easily. Curiously, Jojoba Oil is actually a liquid wax. It is also very non comedogenic meaning that it does not clog the pores. It makes for a good conditioner too. It helps keep the hair shaft smooth and soft. Most hair conditioners use silicone to coat the hair (cyclomethicone or dimethicone), however Jojoba Oil is much more natural and moisturising and doesnt cause so much build-up.
Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Sunflower Oil is rich in vitamins A, D, especially vitamin E and essential fatty acids. Sunflower oil has a light texture making it very comfortable on babies skin.
Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter A rich moisturising butter which, in our opinion, is a great alternative to Lanolin.
Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E) We use the more expensive, natural Vitamin E in our creams, not synthetic. Natural Vitamin E has up to twice the bioavailability of synthetic forms.
Vitamin E has antioxidant action as well as free radical scavenger properties. Abundant assortments of researchers from diversified medical fields have theorized that this can slow the aging process. (Sources: Skin Pharmacology and Applied Skin Physiology, November-December 2001, and Free Radical Biology and Medicine, October 1999).
Euphorbia Certifera Cera (Candelilla Wax) A protective wax that also helps the balm be nice and firm.
Mel (Honey) Honey is wonderful at protecting broken or damaged skin, and is a natural anti-bacterial. We only use Australian honey in our Mudder Udder Balm. Australian honey has never been infected with botulism. In addition, it is pasteurized and the supplier we use tests the honey first as well to make sure there is no contamination.
Copernicia Cerifera Cera (Carnauba Wax) A protective wax that also helps the balm be nice and firm.
Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract Calendula is well known for its soothing qualities. We have infused Calendula within Sunflower Oil to keep it all edible for babies.
Cera Alba (Beeswax) An edible way to help turn products from a cream into a balm.
Allantoin Comfrey Root has long been associated with soft, healthy skin. Allantoin is a skin conditioner that has been purified from comfrey. Allantoin is thought to help maintain healthy skin by encouraging the removal of dead skin cells. It is also promoted for preventing lines and wrinkles by assisting in skin repair.
Humulus Lupulus (Hops) Extract Cosmetic creams need to stay pure from yeast and mould. That is why ingredients like Parabens etc are used by a lot of companies. These work great at achieving their aim, but a lot of our customers prefer not to use them. We worked for over a year to develop a preservation system based on Hop Extract. All our creams have now been checked for preservative efficacy using the British Pharmacopeia test. We are very proud that we are probably one of the first companies to develop this natural and edible anti-bacterial system into our creams.

hungry baby breast feeding

Directions

After breast feeding, clean the area gently with water. Some mum's also use breast milk to clean away saliva (see study below). Apply Mudder Udder Balm. Balm does not need to be cleaned off before next feeding.

Tips for Avoiding Breast Feeding Discomfort.

In an ideal world, breastfeeding will be comfortable. Some mum's and babies have no problems from the start, while for others it can be a struggle. Everybody is different. Lactation consultants can help with specific techniques. The following information may also help you need less of our balm :)

  • Nurse on the best breast first if you have one: Babies often nurse more gently on the second side since theyre less hungry so best breast first to dampen their appetite.
  • Ensure the correct baby's latch: The best latch position is off-centre, with more of the areola below the nipple in your baby's mouth. Try to ensure your babys mouth is open with tongue down before inserting the nipple.
  • Adjust Positions: You may find that certain positions make it easier for your baby to latch on correctly and are much more comfortable than others. So experiment to find the best position.
  • Cold Pack: Some mum's find a cold pack before nursing can help to dampen the initial pain of latch
  • Clean your nipples gently after breastfeeding. When you have a cracked or bleeding nipple, rinse the breast after each feeding with water to reduce the risk of infection. Some practitioners suggest rinsing the nipple with breast milk. This study found rubbing breast milk on the nipple after feeding worked better than Lanolin in reducing healing times: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16127520
